Not So Much An Age Old Tale

I'm so late. I just saw the Superbowl Dodger Charger commercial. I thought it was hilarious and innovative:

But then I came across this spoof:

Which is doubly-hilarious...because according to my father, I'm the "household Feminist" [of a family of 3 girls]---and on occasion we bump heads when it comes to issues of "boy/girl double standards", sports broadcasting, and household chores.

Just the other night, I was fussing at my dad about taking out the garbage and then he shot back at me, "Why won't you take it out? Women want equality and what not, eh?" Sending me on a tirade, which ended with me saying..."You're such a mysogynist!" To which he later sends me an email:

"It's a Man's World" - James Brown

[Who really wants to argue with the GodFather of Soul?]

But check this Daddi-O...
"It wouldn't nothin' without a woman or a girl"-James Brown (*JamesBrown voice* HEY!)

Black Pearl

In continued commemoration of Black People's Month, I would like to remember Wilma Rudolph. The year was 1960 when she made history becoming the first American (black, white, yellow, polkadot) woman to win 3 Gold Medals in the Olympics:

The first American woman, point blank period. Wilma deserves BIGUPPSSS! Breaking barriers for female atheletes to come. She's so graceful too. Darn her for having it all.

I hope you all have been enjoying Black History Month. Applying it to your life in various ways. I'm athelete personally, so Wilma speaks to me...find that something that you really dig (i.e. singing, rock climbing, scrapbooking) and do some research. Utilize that Google ya'll [we've grown up in an Age of Instant Information..take advantage of it!]. Research and see what people have influenced history and helped form this present-day.

AmericUn

That's what I'm talking about. Finally 'Bama manned up! China really has nerve trying to punk the US of A. It's all about respect at the end of the day, and meeting with the Dali Lama was absolutely crucial. If Obama really wanted to be an O.G. he should have pulled a Bush move and met with the Dalai in public!

But babysteps I suppose.

Side Cramp

Need a laugh? Or something to wake you up?... I got you.

XX forward this to me so thank her. Um, if you don't know about Rob Hoffman..utilize that Google/Youtube.

He's also the creator of the 'Yes Dance'. I would call that video 'Classic Youtube' (definition of this phrase under Webster 3000 to your right) seeing how it has over 5 million views, but it's so risque that it might have a demographically younger Youtube following.....but now as I'm typing this....I'm going take that back--because of course it's going to have a viewership that includes the ages of 12 to 30 because who else is on the Internet 24/7??

So allow me to retract my previous statment. 'Yes Dance' is 'Classic Youtube'.

B' Lated

Sooo..

Saw Valentine's Day.. on Valentine's Day. Yes, yes I fell captive to the pretentious (admittedly brilliant) marketing strategy. But what is truly irking me is the fact that I paid 15 whole dollars to watch it. I went in knowing that the movie wasn't going to be that great, but I was going to see a stream of A-listers. I really did forget how cute Ashton Kutcher was...

Anyways, I paid 15 dollars..like not okay at all! I mean, it bothers me that I have to pay 12 dollars at my local theatre for any other movie, but you want to know the reason why it was so expensive? I have more than one reason actually--- Reason(s) Going to the Movies Was 15 Whole Dollars:

1) We saw the "Director's Cut"
2) We sat in leather chairs (very plush, but still..)
3) We were supposedly able to order food from our seats
...... the main reason why......
*4) dealing with last minute people, dang shame

The night was saved only because I was with superfun people (maybe that's what I paid for..good company?)
[There I go again, blatantly lying to myself, ah well--coping mechanism].

But yeah, Valentine's Day was a low-budget version of Love Actually. Wait till it comes out to rent it.

Happy B'Lated Valentines! Hope you spent it with Lovely People*

Beautiful.

Note: 'Lovely People' are at least worth 15 dollars...

Hmm..

Late 2009, we saw Lady Gaga and Beyonce join forces--initially, I was totally against it. I wasn't yet indoctrinated by Miss Lady because at that point I thought she was pretentious and talentless...well I stand corrected (and even if I was correct in thinking less of Lady G, I'd still have "shut up and sit down" because like everyone has come to realize, Gaga owned 2009).

Anyways--Beyonce announced she's taking a break after her...third? World Tour (Get 'em B!) A well deserved break, I might add. The Queen B herself raked in 6 Grammys in one sitting this past month--a record win for a Female Artist. So what I want to talk about is Beyonce's break...anyone who follows her career knows she's constantly on the grind, so when she's "breaking" she's just preparing to attempt to out do her own self (keyword: attempt). Heck, Beyonce had to create Sasha Fierce to help take on the job of outdoing Beyonce!

You may remember I began to talk about the Lady and Beyonce collabo and what it meant. It perplexed me for a moment, but then it made too much sense.... [The following is an AIM conversation, note, some of my opinions have changed since then, but you'll get the gist]:

HOT video.
oh god.
are you not watching this?!
i am right now
gagas nose..
but now i get to see how she actually looks
for once.
i thought this was beyonce.
beyonces song with gaga on the rmx
telephone is gags song feat beyonce.
ew. that outfit.
and beyonces part in that song is hot...but gaga no
she messed it up.
i know..it was fine by itself...im trying to figure out why b chose gaga to colabo with?!
what the hell is beyonce doing.
of all people
what part?
she's getting it..dancing wise.
10:05 PM
i think she likes gagas visual performance..thats the road B's been going down lately
focusing on her videos
since when is she on this weird creative vein.
it started with bday..but really showed with her last tour...remember at her concert?all the videos she had.
gaga is weird looking
i like what she adds
gaga can actually move at the end..her part in the actual song is retarded..her presence in the video isnt as annoying as i thought it would be but still
i guess B was using gaga to make sure people watch her video
i like what she brings in
bc if gagas in it then it's bound to be weird
omg
no she's just an incentive to watch
that orange stripe shirt and the black hat.
bc gagas actually the "normal" one in the video
digging that outfit.
hahah you would
i like it.
with gaga.
i like her multicolored leos
of course.and thats why B did it.
when they're in the white they're kind of moving.
people accept it. so when shes done using gaga and established her "weird creative vein" she'll drop her.
yeah that was a hot part.
i'm kind of ready for beyonce to fade out.
the first part of the video was bomb. her body in that robot suit..sweetgoodness.
so are all her haters.
hahahahahha
she does need to take a break though and reestablish. she's going through a fade right now..it's hard to top oneself.
oh please.
take a step back and listen to yourself.
10:10 PM
brooklynn ive been on Beyonce since DChilds. i've watched almost every performance. shes always trying to outdue herself. thats why shes the Queen and no one is holding a candle to her..
OKAY
NO SPHIEL
I'LL TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT
dangerously in love..she was raw talent.bday....that's when she established her reign....her latest tour...she was testing her limits.
hahahahhahahhaha
dont get me started
you know i can go.
i won't
laugh.tiff

So...what I'm getting at is--whatever Beyonce does next....don't be surprised--I'm already trying to mentally prepare myself. Look at it like this...Gaga is already setting Beyonce up beautifully, because Lady has already traumatized the world (in a twisted good way?) with her "performance art", so whatever anyone else comes out with will look like child's play.

For example, Rhi Rhi's latest video:

Personally, I like this. It's funkyfreshhh and I think it's...Bomb.

But, to each his own.

Weekend Spark

Gettin' back in the groove ya'll. It's easy to fall off. So much that happens throughout the day and runs through my mind that I just can't get it all down, or all that I'm thinking isn't formulated enough to my liking to share. Basically, I'm making excuses for my week absence...can you forgive me?

My girl, Gringita, put me on blast and told me to update Btrilogy (because I know as you know there is too much going on in the world that is Bomb, Beautiful, and Brilliant for me not to recognize it). So this post is dedicated to Gringita (check out her adventures, talk about Btrilogy status--expect to find out more about her in the future).

On that note--look forward to Btrilogy's next Featured Artist..coming at you February 23rd.

Man, I just have a lot I want to talk about but I'm going to restrain for now. I need some sleep. I'm gettin' old ya'll, I can't hang like I use to, so I'm going to list it and you all can Google it (hahaha...yes yes I know this is somewhat bootlegg--roll with me though, just roll with me):
1. John Mayer's Playboy interview
2. Hugh Jackman giving Barbara Walters a lapdance
3. Billy C. Clinton's heart problmes (and yes I meant to spell it Billy with a 'y'--go Youtube Jamie Foxx if you don't get it)

Last but most definitely not least, I wanna let you all know that Miss Erykah Badu is expected to drop her Part II of New Amerykah--"Return of the Ankh"--March, 3, 2010;
Don't sleep on it! Check out her latest single:
